1) Tell us how you first met? Who what when where why? Give us the dirty details.
Marianne: We met through one of our mutual friends, who later was one of our Groomsmen, JP. It was at JP’s Lake House in July back in 2011. My first memory of Brendan was when JP was telling me how a recent science publication was named after him. It wasn’t until later in the night during a game of Kings Masters when I saw Brendan across the table, wearing a yellow hard hat, when I knew I wanted to hear more about him, science publication and all.
Brendan: We met through our friend, JP, at his summer lake house. Apparently we’d had friends in common and had even been in the same place at the same time once or twice, but we’d never met. There couldn’t have been a more fun setting to meet than in the company of our crazy friends, swimming in the lake, playing drinking games and laughing around the fire pit. We became fast friends. I hopped into her car for the drive back to Boston, got her number, and we started dating the next week.
2) When did you know he/she was the one? Was there something he/she did?, etc.
Marianne: I knew Brendan was the one a few years ago when one of my friends got engaged and in telling me her engagement story she shared with me that her now husband had first asked for her Dad’s permission. Having lost my Dad, I was telling Brendan that it makes me a little sad to think he will never have the chance to do that. Without skipping a beat, Brendan turned to me and said of course I will ask your Dad’s permission. I knew then.
Brendan: For me, there wasn’t one moment when I knew that Marianne was the one. Instead, I fell in love with her a little bit at a time, more and more every time that we were together, and I’m still falling more and more in love with her every day.
3) Tell us about the proposal. (Did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning?, how did you feel? nervous, excited, freaking out?)
Marianne: I definitely did not see this coming on the day we got engaged. It could not have been more perfect.
Brendan: Marianne had been on high alert for any sign of a proposal for months, and the morning of the 4th of July was no exception. We woke up at her Mom’s house in NY and she immediately asked how I slept and how I was feeling. On the inside I was freaking out and couldn’t believe it was happening, but on the outside I stayed super cool and she basically deflated, believing that it just wasn’t the day. She had planned a cookout/surprise 30th birthday party for our friend and invited just about everyone we knew from Boston and NY, and she had no idea that the Birthday surprise wasn’t the only surprise in store. However, I didn’t tell any of the guests that I was going to propose, and so we kept getting pulled in different directions (Kan Jam over here, flip-cup over there), and I just couldn’t get a moment alone with her. Finally, while Marianne was distracted, I told everyone to go stand still on the back deck. I got Marianne alone, got down on one knee, and surprised her so much that she started crying and also knelt down with me. Through lots of happy tears, she said yes.
4) Tell us the one thing you love most about each other.
Marianne: I love laughing with Brendan and I hope we continue to make each other laugh forever.
Brendan: Her laugh, for sure.
5) If you feel comfortable, share with us something silly or quirky the other person does. Brendan loves chips!
Marianne: The man eats chips with everything!
Brendan: Marianne wakes up in the morning 100%, on-the-ball, ready-to-go, bing! I’m a slow riser, so from time to time it still feels like I’m dating a puppy in the morning.
6) Besides getting married – what’s the one thing you are looking forward to on your wedding day?
Marianne: I cannot wait to get out on the dance floor with all of our family and friends!
Brendan: I’m looking forward to seeing all of our family and friends on the dance floor. I know that it’s definitely going to be a party!
7) What’s your favorite trend for weddings right now? 8) What inspired your décor or theme?
Marianne: Being it is a New Year’s Eve Wedding, we went with a traditional black, white and silver theme. We want the feel of the wedding to be romantic, classic and elegant.
Brendan: Fun alternative desserts instead of traditional wedding cake.
8) What inspired your décor or theme?
Brendan: Besides the obvious New Year’s Eve theme, Marianne fell in love with the Whitby Castle because every princess should have her “happily ever after” start in a beautiful castle!
9) What’s one thing you wish you would have known earlier in regards to planning?
Marianne: I actually am fortunate enough to have worked as a Wedding Planner for a little while so as soon as Brendan popped the question, I went right into planner mode. We got engaged on 4th of July and we will say I Do on New Year’s Eve, just a few months later!
Brendan: Marianne has been a pro with the wedding planning. I probably should have been thanking her and showing my appreciation for all her hard work from Day 1.
